Update on ITC Deer Park Incident
What is the danger?
The Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management continues to work with response partners on clean-up efforts at the Intercontinental Terminals Company (ITC) in the City of Deer Park. We remain focused primarily on the health and safety of the entire community. Operation crews will remain in the field monitoring air quality and will report any potential elevation in readings. With brisk winds out of the north to northeast and gusty this afternoon, residents in surrounding communities may see an occasional, short-lived spike of VOC readings near industrial areas closest to the incident site; however, all readings today have been below levels that would warrant protective actions to be taken.
Local offices of emergency management are actively engaged and are ready to issue any necessary safety recommendations. Residents should follow official sources for up-to-date information and can visit the CAER Line at
http://www.ehcma.org/caeronline/ for any localized updates.
Updated air quality monitoring information is available at
https://www.readyharris.org/Incidents/Deer-Park-FireWeather (National Weather Service) - Afternoon/Evening: Winds will remain brisk out of the north to northeast and gusty this afternoon, before beginning to lighten after dark. Skies should clear later tonight, as temperatures remain seasonably cool.
- Monday: A slight chance of showers, but otherwise similar to Sunday with lighter winds.
- Tuesday: Sunny and cool with light winds changing to a more southeasterly direction by afternoon.
Health RecommendationsAccording to Harris County Public Health (HCPH), and based on current air monitoring reports, there continues to be a low health risk for the community.
If you do not have a health care provider, the Harris Health System’s Ask-My-Nurse helpline remains open today, from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., to help answer health questions. The number is 713-634-1110.
