Severe Weather, Potential Flooding Expected Saturday
What is the danger?
The Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HCOHSEM) is monitoring potential severe weather beginning Saturday that could cause flooding in the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Harris County from 4:00 a.m. Saturday through 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening.
According to the NWS, a complex of thunderstorms is expected to move from west to east across Harris County beginning Saturday morning through Saturday evening. Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches with isolated totals of more than 6 inches are possible. Areas that experience heavy rainfall of more than 3 inches in a short period of time could see potential street flooding. Rises on area creeks and bayous may be possible.
What you should do:
STAY HOME
- Stay home during severe weather, when possible.
DRIVE SAFE
- If you must drive, stay safe:
- NEVER drive into flooded roadways.
- It only take 6 inches of moving water to move a vehicle.
- Have lights and wipers on.
- SLOW DOWN and allow extra braking distance.
IF THUNDER ROARS, GO INDOORS!
- Postpone outdoor activities.
- If you are outside during a thunderstorm, seek shelter immediately.
- Go inside a building or covered structure.
- Avoid trees and metal objects if shelter is not available.

Clima severo, posibilidad de inundaciones previstas para el sábado
¿Cuál es el peligro?:
La Oficina del Manejo de Emergencias del Condado Harris (HCOHSEM, por sus siglas en inglés) está monitoreando la posibilidad de clima severo, el cual podría presentarse a partir de este sábado y causar inundaciones en la región. El Servicio Nacional de Meteorología (NWS, por sus siglas en inglés) ha emitido una alerta de inundación repentina para el Condado Harris que inicia a partir de las 4:00 a.m. del sábado hasta las 7:00 p.m. del mismo sábado por la noche.
Según el NWS, se espera que un complejo de tormentas eléctricas se mueva de oeste a este a través del Condado Harris a partir del sábado por la mañana hasta el sábado por la noche. La posibilidad de acumulación de lluvia de 2 a 4 pulgadas con totales aislados de más de 6 pulgadas. Las áreas que experimenten fuertes lluvias de más de 3 pulgadas en un corto período de tiempo podrían tener inundaciones potenciales en las calles. Así mismo, podríamos ver posibles aumentos en los arroyos y pantanos del área.
Lo que debes hacer:
QUEDARSE EN CASA
- Cuando haya mal tiempo, quédese en casa de ser posible.
CONDUZCA CON CUIDADO
- Si debe conducir, hágalo con precaución:
- NUNCA conduzca por carreteras inundadas.
- Con solo 6 pulgadas de agua en movimiento, un vehículo puede ser desplazado
- Mantenga las luces y limpiaparabrisas en buen estado para su uso.
- Mantenga una distancia adecuada entre su vehículo y los demás en caso que tenga que frenar.
SI ESCUCHA TRUENOS, ¡PERMANEZCA DENTRO!
- Posponga actividades al aire libre.
- Si está afuera durante una tormenta eléctrica, busque refugio de inmediato.
- Entrar dentro de un edificio o estructura cubierta.
- Evite árboles y objetos metálicos si no hay refugio disponible.
